Arguably Perth’s most exciting racehorse currently in work, Platinum Rocker will be aiming to take one of Brisbane’s major sprinting titles back to Western Australia in the form of the Dane Ripper Stakes this weekend.

A standout performer over the spring of 2013, Platinum Rocker won the Listed Birthday Stakes (1200m) first-up, and while unlucky to finish third when blocked for a run in the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1400m) on October 19th, returned to the winner’s circle in the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) just two weeks later.

Charging home to finish second in the Group 2 Railway Stakes (1600m) to end the memorable season, the Love A Dane mare has returned to racing in similarly competitive form this season; finishing third in both the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) and Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m).

Hopeful of an inside barrier, trainer Simon Miller is confident Platinum Rocker’s class and proven ability over 1400 metres will see a maiden victory this season in the Dane Ripper Stakes.

Trainer Chris Waller is poised to be offered twice the chance of success in the 2014 Dane Ripper Stakes, having nominated standout stable mates Catkins and Red Tracer for an appearance this weekend.

Claiming a total of 11 wins and seven places from 22 competitive starts to date, Catkins is arguably the most talented Australian racehorse yet to break through for a victory at the highest level of racing.

Returning to the track in typically strong form this season, the Dubawi mare claimed back-to-back victories in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) and Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) first-up before securing third in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 22nd.

Returning to winning form when comfortably taking out the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) on Golden Slipper day, Catkins returned for a brief stint in the spelling paddock after finishing sixth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on April 19th.

A noted performer in events first-up Waller is confident in success for Catkins in the Dane Ripper Stakes.

Winner of the 2013 edition of the Dane Ripper Stakes, Red Tracer has also been nominated for the featured Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm this weekend, and is almost certain to accept a position in the final field for that event, leaving Catkins as Waller’s sole Dane Ripper chance.

A standout contender over each of her last two racing preparations, Plucky Belle will be aiming to overcome a disappointing conclusion when blocked for a run in the Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) last time out.

Winning the Group 3 Lavazza Short Black (1400m) on Melbourne Cup day most notably in 2013, the Mossman mare was unlucky not claim win the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) first-up this season when blocked for a run and squeezed out.

Continuing to build in form when fourth in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) and second in the Group 3 Darley Crown (1300m) prior to her most recent performance.

While undoubtedly facing her biggest test this season in the Dane Ripper Stakes, Plucky Belle is more than a chance of success if allocated a favourably barrier.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Dane Ripper Stakes is due to be released on Wednesday morning.
