A standout performer over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Catkins has opened as and maintained favouritism in betting markets for success in the 2014 Dane Ripper Stakes, currently offered at a quote of $3.50, ahead of Cosmic Endeavour ($6), Driefontein ($7.50) and clear market mover Peron, who has cut in to odds of $10 from an initial price of $14.

Will Catkins’ class shine through and deliver a memorable victory in the 2014 Dane Ripper Stakes, or will one of her talented rivals score a notable upset?

1st

Catkins ($3.50)

While allocated the somewhat wide barrier 11, Catkins is without doubt the most talented mare confirmed in the final field of the 2014 Dane Ripper Stakes, and is more than worth at wager for success at $3.50 odds. A noted performer in first-up appearances, the daughter of Dubawi won both the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) and Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) upon returning to the track this year before placing a fighting third in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 22nd. Having since claimed an impressive victory in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) most notably, Catkins has been confirmed to be partnered by regular jockey Hugh Bowman this weekend and is in the right shape to carry winning form into the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in two weeks’ time.

2nd

Driefontein ($7.50)

Breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing when comfortably taking care of a talented field in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Classic (1200m) on April 26th, Driefontein is a noted pace setter and will be particularly difficult to beat this weekend if offered a clean racing line leading into the final 200 metres. Securing an impressive racing record of eight wins and five minor places from just 26 competitive race starts to date, trainer Gai Waterhouse has been pleased with the way Driefontein has pulled up after an unsuccessful tilt at the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) last time out and is confident leading jockey Nash Rawiller will get the best from the Fastnet Rock mare from the ideal barrier 5.

3rd

Plucky Belle ($26)

Arguably offering punters the best value for money of any runner entered in the 2014 Dane Ripper Stakes, Plucky Belle can be taking at particularly generous odds of $26 to win or $7.10 to run a place. Unlucky not to win the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) when blocked for a run twice and squeezed out first-up on March 29th, the Mossman mare has continued to build in form and experience; running fourth in the well-contested Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) and second in the Group 3 Darley Crown (1300m). While unable to handle the late pace of the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) last time out, trainer Peter Moody is confident Plucky Belle will be far better for the maiden Queensland run and will be boosted further by jockey Luke Nolen.
